In all seriousness, I love to laugh. Growing up with two older siblings, it was pretty much a requirement for survival. Humor has shaped who I am, and copywriting fell right into place. Using words to solve problems is second nature to me. So when I realized that was a real career, I did what anyone would do. I laughed.
Now, to address the elephant in the room: yes, my last name is Dick. Yes, I got bullied for it. And don’t even think about it, I’ve heard every joke possible. I’ve learned to make it my brand and use it to my advantage, like any good ad nerd would.
And just when you think it can’t get any better, my mom is a sex therapist. The jokes really never end, but the one thing it’s taught me is that humor brings people together. That’s exactly what I want to do. People think advertising lacks soul. I think it’s the opposite. A good ad makes people feel something, and I hope somewhere in this portfolio, I made you feel something.
